When selecting a player in the draft who is eligible for the PP arbitration scale, GMs have the option to select the 1 year RL arbitration amount. Understand this will only be the ONE year deal and in order to retain the player the GM would have to use a tag at the end of the season.
*** This only applies to players who are currently going through arbitration in RL. Players who have signed a contract through their arb. Years are not eligible for the choice.

To elaborate... although the ARB scale calculation may cost higher, it may yield more years of securing the players' services.

And be sure to announce which contract you are going to use when making your pick.

One example...
Matt Wieters
The scale here puts him at $1.0m (5/6) while his RL one-year deal is for $8.3m. Not sure about the other way though.

Not sure if I understand this point, and which way the automatic decision falls: *** This only applies to players who are currently going through arbitration in RL. Players who have signed a contract through their arb. Years are not eligible for the choice
what about someone like Jonathan Singleton.
Scale here is (1/6) or 2/6 but his real life contract is $2.0 from 2015-2018. So what would the default be?? The real life contract??

Jonathan Singleton signed an extension through his arb. years. Drafting him inherits the RLC.

My rule of thumb is to look at the spreadsheet that Cots has for each team. In the case of Singleton, he does have a RLC and won't be going through arbitration since arbitration years were bought out. If the player has Arb 1, Arb 2, Arb 3 next to them, then you can use the arbitration scale to figure out a total based on performance.
